Earn up to 13 CE Credit Hours

To be eligible for Continuing Education credit, participants must attend the full program, complete all required sign-in and sign-out procedures, and submit an online evaluation form for each session attended.

It is the responsibility of each attendee to verify whether the CE credits offered by the South Carolina Association for Play Therapy (SCAPT) meet the requirements of their specific state licensing or certification board.

Continuing Education certificates will be available through each participant’s CE-Go account upon completion of the required evaluations.


The following CE credit options are available:

Participants may earn 6.5 or 13 Contact Play Therapy Hours, provided by the South Carolina Association for Play Therapy, an APT Approved Provider (#99-061).


In addition, SCAPT is recognized by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Division of Professional and Occupational Licensing—SC Board of Examiners for the Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Addiction Counselors, and Psycho-Educational Specialists (Provider #4586)—to offer 6.5 or 13 Continuing Education Clock Hours for this event.


Social Work CE hours have been applied for and are currently pending approval.

Event Learning Objectives

  • Describe the two branches of the autonomic nervous system and how they respond during play therapy
  • Describe how a sensitized stress response system contributes to at least one confusing and baffling behavior in play therapy clients
  • List three parts of play therapy clients’ inner communities that often present in play therapy
  • Identify three play therapy techniques that strengthen a play therapy client’s ‘owl’ brain (ventral vagal complex)
  • Identify three play therapy techniques that bring safety to a play therapy client’s ‘watchdog’ brain (sympathetic nervous system)
  • Identify three play therapy techniques that bring safety to a play therapy client’s ‘possum’ brain (dissociation continuum/dorsal vagal complex)
  • Describe one way grief and loss are expressed in children through the play therapy process using an interpersonal neurobiology framework, including regulation, connection, and felt safety.
  • Describe and apply the main concept of nature as a co-therapist in play therapy by integrating all of the following: natural elements, sensory experiences, and outdoor environments to support regulation, connection, and felt safety in grieving children.
  • Identify at least three nature in play therapy interventions that support grieving children and promote regulation across the stress response system (e.g., hyperarousal and dissociation continuum).
  • Demonstrate at least three nature-based play therapy interventions that support regulation, connection, and felt safety in children experiencing grief.
  • Identify at least two strategies for play therapists to increase self-awareness of their own grief experiences to support effective play therapy with grieving children.
  • Identify at least three cultural considerations relevant to grief and loss and describe how these may inform the play therapy process.

Refund Policy

Refunds can be made, if requested 7 days before event date of workshop. Registration fee ($5) is nonrefundable. Refunds will be issued minus any applicable fees.

In case of workshop cancellation, payments will be refunded.
